Black People Don’t Travel

We’ve all seen the travel sites featuring happy-go-lucky backpackers traversing beautiful destinations with breath-taking landscapes and larger-than-life-architecture behind them; the smiles on the faces of these travelers mirror the joy that surrounds them. But the one thing that many of the travel sites and social media pages have in common is the lack of black and brown faces. That’s right! For a long time, people of color haven’t been equally represented in the traveling spaces, and because of this, many in the Black community believe that we simply don’t travel. But as we become even more connected through technology and social media, we realize that there is a larger world to explore, and with a little planning and saving, travel (yes, even globally) can be a realistic goal for all Black people, even those on a tight budget!

Traveling is too Expensive

I'm not telling you to pack up your belongings and high-tail it to the nearest airport with just a dream and destination, you will need money to not only buy a plane ticket, but to eat and sleep as well, but if you’re willing to make traveling a year-long commitment, there are a few tips that you can use to make your travels both affordable and fun.

One way to reduce your traveling costs is to apply for credit cards with traveling bonuses. This is a great option for those who practice responsible financial habits, it’s also a great way to build your credit!

Let me explain how you can utilize your rewards for awesome gains! We all have bills to pay, so why not use your rewards card to cover your monthly expenses? Doing so will help you rack up the points, and any bills that you can’t pay using your rewards card can simply be covered by using your debit bank card. Just remember to pay your credit card bill at the end of each month. Rewards cards like Capital One Venture have opportunities for you to earn 50,000 travel miles when you spend $3,000 within 3 months; that’s equal to $500 in travel! That could mean a free plane ticket to any destination of your choice!

But, I’ve Never Traveled Before

Global travel can be intimidating for those who have never left the country, but lucky for you, many people are taking leaps, making mistakes, and getting messy out there and bringing back a wealth of knowledge to make your journey a pleasant one. Creating new experiences is all about diving into the unknown. If you’re feeling nervous about it, form a travel group with a few of your friends. This will also double as a way to cut travel costs. Meals, hotel rooms, hostels, and the best part, drinks, can all be divided among the group. I mean this in the best way possible, take advantage of your friends and they will thank you for it! Your shared experiences and stories will be something to enjoy for a lifetime.

Travel Agents Can Help

Travel agents can help you iron out the details such as travel destinations, booking the cheapest flight, and finding the best accommodations, so don’t be afraid to ask for help. Another way to earn additional savings and perks is to become a travel agent yourself. It’s easier than ever to turn a love for travel into a career, and the best part about it is the savings! Whether you choose to partner with an agent or become one yourself, you will enjoy exclusive rates, earnings, and discounts that will transform your travel woes into an exciting journey time and time again.
